Happy Birthday, Stephen! May 4, 2011

Stephen celebrated his tenth birthday at the Reading Phillies v. Portland Sea Dogs this year in Reading, PA.  Additional daughter, Julie Miranto and the Gelband men (Maddox, Devin, and Brett) joined us for a beautiful sunny day at the park.

Stephen got to throw out a first pitch and the Phillies won the game 3-2 in a close one. The Sea Dog manager even got thrown out of the game. What more could a kid ask for?

Me:  “Cameron, are you staying here or going with Dad to Stephen’s game?”

Cameron:  “I’m going with Dad. I’m Dad’s man.”

Me: “What about me?”

Cameron: “You have Andrew.”

Me: “Well, I want you, too.”

Cameron: “No. You have Drew, I am with Dad. And you can have Stephen. Dad and I will take Bradley.”

Me: “What about Kayla?”

Cameron: “Oh, we can just give her to a friend.”

It’s our game … March 8, 2011

A ball player’s got to be kept hungry to become a big-leaguer.  That’s why no boy from a rich family ever made the big leagues.

~Joe DiMaggio, quoted in New York Times, 30 April 1961

I’ve come to the conclusion that the two most important things in life are good friends and a good bullpen.

~Bob Lemon, 1981

I was such a dangerous hitter I even got intentional walks in batting practice.

~Casey Stengel, 1967

There have been only two geniuses in the world.  Willie Mays and Willie Shakespeare.

~Tallulah Bankhead

What does a mama bear on the pill have in common with the World Series?  No cubs.

~Harry Caray

There are three things in my life which I really love:  God, my family, and baseball.  The only problem – once baseball season starts, I change the order around a bit.

~Al Gallagher, 1971

I see great things in baseball.  It’s our game – the American game.  It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism.  Tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set.  Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us.

~Walt Whitman

a-MAZE-ing weekend! October 19, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Annie @ 12:04 am

We had a great time last weekend at the Mast Maze @ Mast Farms in Morgantown, PA with our neighbors David and the Gelbands (Stacey, Brett, Deven, and Maddox) and Trey and Kristin who drove from Charlotte to spend Fall Break being tormented by the Lands kiddos!  They should have known that five is never enough — Eight has a better ring to it!  haha

David, Cameron (white) & Andrew (red)

Kristin pointed to this scene across the farm and asked how many times I’d worked *that* jigsaw puzzle!

Rob explains the science of swingset technology to Trey & Kris.

Deven, Bradley, Stephen, and Maddox on the Great Mountain of Hay!

Why did it never occur to me to build a train out of an old lawnmower and some barrels, disguise it as a caravan of pork, and charge kids a buck to ride around in a circle?

Mast Farms never knew what hit ‘em!

No straw-laden experience is complete without a HAY RIDE!

The little boys, Rob, and I took the short maze with Trey and Kristin.  I’m not sure whose idea (COUGH:TREY:COUGH) it was to start throwing corn pellets but it quickly got out of control!

Cameron and David gathering more corn for pelting me in the back of the head.

Pumpkin Painting!!!

Bunch ‘a animals!

Gorgeous day.  Great friends. Only one insect infestation (sorry Brett!).
